Our History

A journey of growth and commitment to serving Ugandan communities

From Vision to Reality

Weerinde Insurance Brokerage Services Ltd was officially launched on August 26, 2021, at Muganzilwaza Plaza in Kampala, with the Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, presiding over the event. Initially unveiled as Weerinde Royal Brokerage Company under BICUL's portfolio expansion, we have grown to become a leading insurance brokerage in Uganda.

By February 2023, we had established a strong presence in Kampala, and by July 2024, we expanded our reach by opening a branch in Buddu (Masaka). Today, we continue to operate as a subsidiary focused on providing countrywide services, with our license active as of January 2025 under the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) of Uganda.

Our journey reflects our commitment to making insurance accessible and affordable for all Ugandans, especially those in underserved communities.

Weerinde Insurance Brokerage Services Ltd is 100% owned by the Buganda Kingdom, one of Uganda's largest traditional cultural institutions. This unique ownership structure provides us with a deep connection to the communities we serve and a strong mandate to prioritize their well-being.

As a key subsidiary under the Buganda Investment and Commercial Undertaking Ltd (BICUL), we operate with a dual mission: to provide excellent insurance services and to contribute to the economic and social development of the Buganda Kingdom and Uganda at large.

Our connection to the Kingdom informs our approach to business, emphasizing community values, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to uplifting the lives of ordinary Ugandans through accessible insurance solutions.
